The Prime Minister has demanded that the concerned authorities expedite the payment of flood victims’ compensation.
According to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the government has reevaluated the compensation program implemented in 2011, and new help measures would be launched by the Ministry of Interior soon. The distribution of financial help, as well as other types of support, is proceeding on schedule.
As the water levels in major rivers begin to drop, he said, the flooding should ease because the water will be able to drain away through the rivers and streams.
Meanwhile, political parties and MPs are petitioning the Election Commission to relax restrictions that prevent them from delivering relief to communities affected by the floods during the 180 days prior to an election. The regulations in these places require revising, and aid is desperately needed there.
According to Bhumjaithai Party spokesperson Saksayam Chidchob, party leader Anutin Charnvirakul has written to the Election Commission requesting a revision to the regulation but has not yet received a response.
