The city of Bangkok has begun its campaign to clean up the city and clear the sidewalks for pedestrians by opening the first free area for street sellers and hawkers.
Governor Chadchart Sittipunt of Bangkok and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials unveiled the “Hello Hab-Re” project on February 1 at Samyan Mitrtown on Rama IV Road. From now on, the designated area can be used for free by authorized street sellers and hawkers on weekdays between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM and again between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM. All of these vendors have been checked and found to be up to par with the Pathumwan District Office’s health and safety regulations for selling food.
The governor of Bangkok has publicly thanked Samyan Mitrtown for donating the land, noting that the site will improve the city’s economic climate and contribute to its overall cleanliness. His main point was that no new buildings would have to be constructed because the proposal advocates for the effective utilization of existing ones.
As long as people work together, Chadchart thinks Bangkok has enough room for everyone. He expects that more private property owners will join this effort in the future.
