The Department of Business Development (DBD) has stated that there was a large increase in the number of new business registrations in the month of February, which is an encouraging trend for the Thai economy. According to the Director-General of the DBD, Thosapone Dansuputra, a total of 8,537 new registrations were reported throughout the month. This represents an increase of 0.84% from the previous month and a significant growth of 18.39% compared to the same time period in the previous year.
The restaurant industry, the real estate industry, and the construction industry came out on top as the top three industries for new registrations, each having 715, 619, and 409 enterprises respectively. There was an 8.19% drop from January’s total capital value to February’s total capital value, but there was only a 1.22% drop from February 2022’s total capital value. The total capital value of these registrations was 19.1 billion baht.
Yet, while the number of people who deregistered their vehicles in February was 33% lower than the previous month’s total, it was 29% higher than it was during the same time period the previous year. The retail industry was the most severely affected, with 25 firms, followed by the real estate and construction industries, both of which had 45 businesses each.
On a more upbeat note, the rate of registration for enterprises in the tourism industry in February 2023 was 1.1 times greater as compared to the same month the year before. In February 2023, travel-related firms accounted for 8.05% of all new registrations. These included travel agencies, tour leading businesses, businesses that exchange foreign currency, restaurants, and hotels. Consumer and corporate confidence indices have been on the rise, which is proof that this surge may be ascribed to an overall improvement in the economy as well as an increase in the number of tourists visiting the country.
