Two prominent data center providers from Japan have recently made significant investments totaling $164 million (5.5 billion baht) in Thailand, aiming to capitalize on the surging demand for digital transformation and cloud computing services.
Telehouse, a renowned data center company, has unveiled its inaugural data center in Thailand with an investment of $74 million. Simultaneously, NTT Global Data Centers Corporation has committed 3 billion baht to develop its largest data center in Thailand, which is slated to commence operations in the second half of 2024.
Thailand has emerged as an appealing destination for global cloud and data center providers seeking to expand their foothold. Leading companies such as Tencent Cloud, Huawei, NTT, Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services, and Google Cloud have already made substantial investments in the country.
Telehouse’s newly established data center in Bangkok aims to become a pivotal internet hub, enabling multiple telecommunication carriers and service providers to interconnect and exchange data traffic both domestically and internationally. With the support of over 10 partners, this facility fosters an “interconnection” ecosystem within the data center.
NTT’s investment will lead to the creation of a significant data center known as BKK3. Strategically located in the Amata City Chonburi industrial estate, situated on the Eastern Economic Corridor, BKK3 will offer a maximum IT capacity of 12 megawatts, covering approximately 4,000 square meters of IT space. The cutting-edge infrastructure will cater to hyperscalers and enterprises, making a substantial contribution to the growth of Thailand’s digital economy.
Both data centers align with the “Green Innovation” vision of the NTT Group, emphasizing the attainment of net-zero emissions by 2040. These facilities will adopt sustainable practices and utilize green energy sources to support Thailand’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
