Transport Ministry Unveils Plans for Two Elevated Tollways, Totaling 87 Billion Baht

The Transport Ministry has unveiled ambitious plans to construct two new elevated tollways, the Pathum Thani-Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi-Western Bangkok projects, with an estimated total cost of 87 billion baht. Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit announced the projects on Monday, detailing the significant infrastructure development initiatives.

The first project entails a north-bound extension of the Don Muang tollway, stretching from the Rangsit area in Pathum Thani to Bang Pa-in district in Ayutthaya. The proposed elevated tollway, measuring 22 kilometers, is estimated to cost 31.28 billion baht. The Transport Ministry plans to involve the private sector by inviting tenders for the construction and operation of the tollway. The state will later repay the incurred costs, emphasizing a collaborative approach through a public-private partnership.

The second project involves the construction of an elevated tollway spanning 35.85 kilometers above the existing western outer ring road of Bangkok, connecting Bang Khunthian district to Bang Bua Thong district in Nonthaburi. The estimated construction cost for this tollway is 56.03 billion baht.

Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit highlighted the importance of these infrastructure projects in addressing the growing demands of transportation and connectivity in the region. The elevated tollways are expected to enhance mobility and contribute to the overall development of the transportation network.

The implementation of these projects through a public-private partnership reflects the government’s commitment to efficient collaboration with the private sector for infrastructure development. The invitation for tenders from the private sector aims to ensure the optimal construction and operation of the tollways, aligning with the government’s vision for a robust and well-connected transportation system in Thailand.
