Boy Falls Into Open Drain in Samut Sakhon

On May 30, 2024, a three-year-old boy affectionately called Big accidentally fell into an open drain while playing in front of his home in Samut Sakhon. The incident took place in Moo 3, within the Bang Ya Phraek sub-district of the Mueang District, and was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

Big was engaged in outdoor play, running and riding his bicycle when he suddenly fell into an open drain approximately one meter deep. The drain had been left uncovered due to ongoing road repair work in the area.

Big’s older brother, who was nearby, witnessed the fall and quickly rushed to help. Construction workers in the vicinity, alerted by the boy’s cries, also hurried over and successfully pulled him out. Big emerged from the drain soaked and dirty, with minor scratches on his body.

Concerned for her son’s well-being, especially given his history of seizures as an infant, Big’s mother immediately took him to Samut Sakhon Hospital. Fortunately, doctors determined that he was physically unharmed, though understandably shaken by the ordeal.

In response to the incident, officials promptly covered the open drain with a metal sheet to prevent any future accidents. Big’s mother is now demanding accountability from the relevant authorities for the hazardous conditions in their residential area.

Expressing her concern and frustration, she stated, “It is unacceptable that a child could fall into an open drain. We need answers and assurance that this won’t happen again.”

Officials, community members, and construction workers were involved in addressing the situation, underscoring the need for increased safety measures in the neighborhood. The incident has sparked a conversation about the importance of maintaining safe environments, particularly in areas where children play.

By addressing these concerns, authorities aim to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the safety of all residents in the area. The swift action taken to cover the drain highlights a commitment to community safety, but residents continue to seek long-term solutions and assurances from local officials.
