EEC Approves Environment Management Plan for Industrial Project

The Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) board has given the green light to the government’s environment management plan for its key industrial project, aiming to mitigate its impact on local communities and ecosystems. The plan, crafted by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, received approval during the EEC Policy Committee meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, Phumtham Wechayachai, on Monday.

Mr. Phumtham revealed that the board’s endorsement paves the way for the plan’s submission to the cabinet for final approval. Emphasizing the government’s commitment to environmental protection and community development around the EEC, he highlighted the plan’s role in attracting further investments to the area.

Stretching across Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, and Rayong provinces, the EEC serves as a crucial industrial hub overseen by the EEC Office of Thailand. Its primary objective is to enhance the country’s competitiveness and innovation capabilities, ensuring future generations benefit from sustainable growth.

The approved plan delineates four key focus areas: Waste and Environmental Pollution Management, Conservation, Restoration, Maintenance, and Sustainable Use of Natural Resources, Promoting Sustainable Living and Business Operations, and Empowering Relevant Sectors through innovation and equitable resource management.

Additionally, the committee received updates on various infrastructure projects being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Contractors for the High-Speed Rail Link Connecting Three Airports project, managed by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), were briefed on construction site boundaries. Measures to address pandemic-related delays and geopolitical challenges, such as Russia’s conflict in Ukraine, were also discussed.

Furthermore, the Royal Thai Navy proposed the construction of a second runway and taxiway at U-Tapao airport in Rayong. Technical proposals are under review, with construction slated for completion by 2028.

The meeting underscored the government’s multifaceted approach to infrastructure development, balancing economic growth with environmental sustainability and strategic partnerships to propel Thailand’s industrial landscape forward.
