The Bangkok-Vientiane international train service began its first operation on July 20, reaching its full capacity with 300 passengers. This inaugural journey marks a significant step in enhancing transportation links between Thailand and Laos, promoting regional connectivity.
Upon arrival at Nong Khai Station, Station Master Veera Charoenrang, along with a team of immigration officers, managed the border formalities efficiently. The process, which included immigration, customs, and health checks, was completed in about 40 minutes, allowing passengers to continue their final 20-minute journey to Khamsawat station in Vientiane.
The service offers a variety of travel accommodations to cater to different preferences and budgets. Third-class fan-cooled seats are available for 281 baht, while second-class air-conditioned seats are priced at 574 baht. For those seeking more comfort, second-class air-conditioned sleeper cars are offered, with prices ranging from 784 to 874 baht for upper and lower berths, respectively. All trains depart from Bangkok’s Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, with fare reductions for passengers boarding at intermediate stops along the route.
Tickets for the Bangkok-Vientiane train route can be booked up to 180 days in advance, providing flexibility for both spontaneous travelers and those planning ahead. Passengers are reminded to have all necessary documents for border crossings at Nong Khai and Vientiane stations.
Officials, including Station Master Veera Charoenrang and the immigration team, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth execution of the service’s first day. Their efficient handling of formalities and passenger assistance contributed to the successful launch of this important regional link.
