A Swiss national accused of assaulting a Thai doctor was acquitted by the Phuket Provincial Court today due to insufficient evidence. The charges stemmed from an incident on February 24 at a pool villa estate on Yamu Beach, Phuket, where the accused, identified as David, allegedly assaulted the doctor, Dr. Tharndao, for reportedly trespassing on his property.
The case arose when Dr. Tharndao was found sitting on the steps of David’s residence, leading to an altercation in which David was accused of kicking her in the back. The incident caused widespread local outrage, with many calling for the expulsion of the Swiss man from the island and the cancellation of his visa. Additionally, the situation prompted a broader investigation into possible land encroachment by the housing estate where the incident took place.
In court, however, the judges ruled that the evidence presented was insufficient to prove the assault allegations, resulting in David’s acquittal. Calls for further action by local residents and authorities remain ongoing amidst the investigation into the legality of the estate’s location.
