Canadian Tourist Dies After Fatal Fall at Pattaya Resort

PATTAYA — A Canadian tourist, aged 66, tragically lost his life after slipping on stairs and striking his head on a decorative statue at a resort in Pattaya’s Jomtien Beach area on December 4, 2024.

Police responded to the incident at approximately 3:30 p.m. The victim, identified as Mr. Giroud, had been staying at the resort since December 2 and was due to leave on December 9. Witnesses reported that the accident occurred as he returned from what appeared to be an exercise session. He slipped on the three-step entrance stairs, hitting his head on a statue of a traditional Thai dancer, resulting in an instantaneous fatal injury.

Police searched the victim’s ninth-floor room, where they found luggage, personal items, a laptop, and medical supplies, including prescription medications and syringes. These items were collected as evidence.

The body was transported to Bang Lamung Hospital for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, police are working with the Canadian Embassy to notify the victim’s family. Resort management revealed that CCTV footage from the area was unavailable due to staff being on leave during the extended holiday period.

Forensic investigators are examining the scene and analyzing the medical supplies discovered in the victim’s room. Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to finalize their investigation into the cause of the accident.
