Israel Adds 13,000 Jobs for Thai Agricultural Workers

Israeli Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Avi Dichter has announced an additional 13,000 job openings in Israel’s agricultural sector for Thai workers in 2025. The move was revealed during high-level discussions in Jerusalem between senior Thai officials and Mr. Dichter, as both nations aim to strengthen labor cooperation in agriculture.

A Thai delegation, led by Labour Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn and Department of Employment director-general Somchai Morakotsriwan, toured key agricultural sites, including the Beit Hilkia Moshav and the Leafresh farm, which uses hydroponic methods for vegetable cultivation. At Leafresh, the officials met 15 Thai workers employing smart farming technologies, such as computer-controlled systems for monitoring water quality, temperature, and fertilization.

In talks following the visit, Mr. Dichter affirmed Israel’s plans to expand its Thai agricultural workforce, highlighting the importance of skilled labor in modernizing the sector. Mr. Phiphat stated Thailand’s readiness to meet the demand, requesting detailed information on job requirements in agriculture and livestock to ensure proper matching of skills and to help workers earn competitive salaries. The initiative is also expected to address issues like illegal employment.

The Thai delegation also visited an agrivoltaics farm combining solar power with advanced agricultural practices, where Thai workers reportedly earn about 60,000 baht per month, sending significant portions back to their families.

Additionally, Mr. Phiphat urged Israel to ensure the safety and welfare of Thai nationals amid ongoing regional tensions. He called for proper compensation for the family of Nisan Meerum, a Thai worker who lost his life in a missile attack in Metula on October 11, 2024, and requested attention to the situation of six Thai citizens still held captive by Hamas.

These developments underscore the growing partnership between Thailand and Israel in addressing labor needs and advancing agricultural innovation.
