Mae Sot, Thailand—A 10-year-old girl who went missing from her home last Friday has been safely rescued from Myanmar and reunited with her family in Mae Sot district, Tak province. Authorities suspect the involvement of the family’s nanny, who was also brought back and is now under police questioning.
The case began when Mae Sot district police received a complaint from the girl’s mother, reporting her daughter and their nanny missing from Village 2. Initial investigations uncovered evidence near the Myanmar border in Ban Konekane, Mahawan sub-district. A bicycle and a scarf, believed to belong to the nanny, were abandoned near the border, raising suspicions that the child had been smuggled into Myanmar.
With the assistance of the Border Guard Force and the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), local authorities were able to locate and rescue the girl and her nanny. Both were safely returned to Thailand and handed over to Mae Sot police yesterday.
The child’s mother, identified as Kamporn, expressed relief at her daughter’s return but vowed never to hire a nanny again, citing the distressing experience.
Police have announced plans to conduct a medical evaluation of the nanny’s mental health as part of their ongoing investigation. Additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident are expected to emerge as inquiries continue.
Officials from both sides of the border commended the swift cooperation between Thai authorities and allied forces in Myanmar, which ensured the child’s safe recovery.
