Bangkok Residents Upset by Fireworks Chaos During Chinese New Year

As the Chinese New Year celebrations continue, residents in Bangkok are expressing frustration over the widespread disruption caused by fireworks, which have sparked fires, disturbed local communities, and raised concerns for public safety.

The fireworks, set off by Chinese groups in various parts of the city, have led to grassfires in several areas, causing additional stress for local fire services. In particular, neighborhoods such as Huai Khwang, Rama 9, Srinakarin, Bangkokkritt, and Ramkhamhaeng have been affected, with residents reporting distress over the loud noise and the risk of fires.

Social media posts have highlighted the growing dissatisfaction, including a video shared by a local Facebook page, Big Kren. The video showed Chinese groups lighting fireworks, only to scatter when police arrived, before continuing their activities shortly after. The ensuing fires, which required fire engines to extinguish, have compounded the disruption.

The situation has been especially concerning for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and pets. Social media users have noted that the noise and fire hazards exacerbate health issues for the elderly, particularly those with heart conditions, and put pets in distress.

This annual occurrence has sparked public calls for better regulation of fireworks displays, especially in residential areas. The issue continues to be a point of contention as locals struggle with the ongoing disturbances.
