Thailand and China to Expand Sister City Partnerships

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress, during an official visit to China. The visit marked a key moment in diplomatic relations between the two nations.

As part of the 50th anniversary of Thai-Chinese diplomatic ties, Thailand and China plan to expand their Sister City partnerships to 50 pairs. The initiative is designed to strengthen cooperation between provinces and municipalities, fostering cultural exchange, economic collaboration, and long-term strategic ties. The Thai Ministry of Interior will oversee the implementation of this effort.

Following official meetings, Prime Minister Paetongtarn and her delegation attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square. The visit concluded with a luncheon at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Beijing, reaffirming Thailand’s commitment to deepening cooperation with China across multiple sectors.
