On July 2, 2025, Universal Pictures is set to release Jurassic World: Rebirth, the latest installment of the popular dinosaur franchise, prominently featuring filming locations in southern Thailand. The film, shot between June and July 2024, brought international production to the provinces of Krabi, Phang Nga, and Trang, with a total budget exceeding 400 million baht.
The Department of Tourism has highlighted the project as a successful case of Thailand’s efforts to position itself as a global filming destination. Through the country’s 20% cash rebate incentive for foreign productions, the film drew over 2,200 Thai workers, including crew members and local service providers. Officials believe the policy continues to play a pivotal role in attracting high-budget international films that stimulate regional economies.
According to a government announcement, the production selected Khao Phanom Bencha National Park and Huai To Waterfall in Krabi, Ao Phang Nga National Park in Phang Nga, and Koh Kradan in Trang as primary backdrops. These lush, natural environments—dense jungles, dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and secluded beaches—served as key elements in bringing the dinosaur-themed universe to life.
Tourism authorities anticipate that the film’s international reach will draw increased interest to southern Thailand’s lesser-known destinations, particularly Ao Luek and Ban Bakan village in Krabi, both featured in the film. This heightened exposure is expected to benefit local hotels, tour services, and transportation providers.
Starring Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, and Rupert Friend, Jurassic World: Rebirth continues a franchise known for its global appeal. Officials believe the film will further promote Thailand’s natural heritage and reinforce its status as a top-tier filming and eco-tourism location.
A spokesperson from the Department of Tourism noted that collaborative efforts between public agencies and international studios serve as a model for how film can support sustainable development and tourism growth in the region.
