On June 29, 2025, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration officially opened a new connector road designed to improve access to Don Mueang International Airport and reduce traffic congestion in northern Bangkok.
The route links Vibhavadi-Rangsit Soi 72 with Phahon Yothin Road and extends to Thep Rak Road, forming a key component of a larger integrated network. It connects five major Bangkok thoroughfares: Vibhavadi-Rangsit, Phahon Yothin, Watcharaphon, Ram Inthra, and Sukhapibal 5.
City officials say the new road eliminates the need for detours and traffic light stops for travelers heading to Don Mueang Airport. The improved connectivity is expected to distribute traffic more evenly across the capital’s northern corridors, relieving pressure on traditionally congested routes.
The connector also enhances access to multiple transportation systems, including the Uttaraphimuk and Chalong Rat expressways, as well as Highway No. 9. It links directly with the BTS Green Line and Red Line electric rail services, establishing a comprehensive multi-modal hub for both private drivers and public transit users.
This development comes in response to rapid urban expansion in Bangkok’s northern districts, which has often outpaced road capacity. Transportation authorities anticipate that the new infrastructure will reduce airport-bound travel times and improve overall traffic flow in the Don Mueang area.
