The Phadung Krung Kasem Canal Canal renovation project is to welcome a new night market, Padungsilpa, in March 2022. The market will specifically showcase artistic activities and design work under the perfectly-interweaven concepts of timelessness, Thai culture, and eco-friendliness.
The renovation project is a pilot project that involves Hua Lumphong zone of 1,250 meter distance. The current progress status is at 58% covering reconstructing new pedestrian walkways, installing public lights, and building a new pier. The rest is expected to be completed on March 29, 2022, under 180-day construction plan started on October 1, 2021.
Padungsilpa Market near Padungkrungkasen Canal serves as a venue that sustains the arts of the city where young generations gather to spread creativity. There will be over 100 shops that sell arts and design work, outdoor movie theaters by the canal, and various forms of musical performances. The market will open on Friday and the weekends, from 4-10 pm, starting in March 2022. Different weekly themes can be expected to illustrate creative highlights that invite guests to appreciate the seamless integration of Thai traditional cultures, the green-driven concept, and the fast pace of the world.
According to Pol. Gen Aswin Kwanmuang, governor of Bangkok, Bangkok has been undergoing canal renovation projects in many areas in the city to solve environmental issues, and improve the living quality of the people living nearby canals. The projects aim to collaborate with every sector such as local business owners, residents, and other related public agencies to conserve clean water, and turn the surrounding areas near canals to everyone’s benefits such as commuting streets, resting areas, and exercising venues.
