The Cabinet has given the go-ahead for a potash mine in Udon Thani province to solve the problem of expensive fertilizers. Suriya is expected to produce up to 2 million tons for the first batch of mines per year within 6 months – 1 year.
On June 28, 2022, at the Government House, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, Minister of Industry, said after the Cabinet meeting that the approval of the potash mining project in Udon Thani province was endorsed.
The mining department will study and expedite the process of obtaining a license company so that farmers can easily benefit from potash by mixing it with a basic fertilizer, which will result in a lower price of fertilizer.
Regarding the environmental impact of potash mining, the Department of Mineral Resources is already taking care of the environment and considers the requirements that the Ministry of Industry and environmental agencies have already examined the issues to see if they can be implemented and presented at the cabinet meeting.
Reporters asked how long it will take to open a mine? Mr. Suriya replied that the private sector wants it to be as early as 6 months or 1 year. It should be able to produce the volume of potash that will gradually increase to 2 million tons per year.
