The Department of Agriculture inked agreements today to decrease greenhouse emissions and develop cannabis for medicinal and commercial applications as part of its 50th anniversary festivities.
Mananya Thaiset, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, attended the signing of the two agreements.
The first deal, inked with Chulalongkorn University, is for the development of cannabis-related plants for medical and commercial uses. This initiative focuses on the discovery, production, and testing of THC-rich Petchompoo 1-5 cannabis strains, making them more appropriate for THC extract and medicinal applications.
This collaboration is focused on improving growing practices and using biopesticides to keep pests at bay so that the harvest may be used for medical purposes.
The Department of Agriculture has a One-Stop Service Center for cannabis, hemp, and kratom management at its headquarters. To ask inquiries regarding these plants, call the 1174 hotline.
The department also agreed to collaborate with the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (TGO) to promote awareness about greenhouse gas emissions. This collaboration will allow both agencies to cooperate on greenhouse gas reduction initiatives, research and data gathering process improvements, and carbon footprint assessments.
The two organizations will collaborate to pilot the carbon credit certification method, which will begin with fruit farms, palm plantations, and rubber plantations.
