With COVID-19 downgraded to a communicable illness under surveillance, COVID hospital admissions will now be recorded weekly rather than daily. Meanwhile, the prime minister has expressed gratitude to those who worked for the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) in resolving the COVID-19 situation.
Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has extended gratitude to all who participated in and contributed to the CCSA. The statement was shared on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook page.
Gen. Prayut commended the appropriate personnel for their efforts and sacrifices throughout the CCSA’s two-and-a-half-year tenure. He acknowledged that their commitment had helped the Thai people through the COVID situation.
On September 30, the CCSA was formally closed, and its responsibilities were transferred to the Ministry of Public Health. Starting today, the Department of Disease Control’s data on the number of hospitalized COVID patients will be released weekly rather than daily (3 October).
Dr. Yong Poovorawan, a virology expert at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, stated on Facebook that COVID-19 outbreaks will now be similar to flu epidemics. He claims that respiratory infections and flu epidemics are most common during the rainy season, which lasts from June to September. After September, outbreaks become less common, but they resume from January through March.
Booster vaccination doses for susceptible individuals, according to Dr. Yong, should be delivered before the rainy season begins. Individuals who are at high risk of severe symptoms and become infected should be treated with antivirals as soon as possible. He claimed that taking antivirals as soon as an ATK test results in a positive result will reduce sick days by three.
The specialist virologist emphasized that individuals should continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID. Dr. Yong expects the COVID situation will continue to improve as most patients develop immunity and treatments improve.
