The catastrophe that struck Seoul, South Korea on October 29 claimed the life of at least one Thai national. Since the decedent had been paying into the Social Security System, her heirs will get their due payment. The ministry of labor is making sure that the family receives all of the benefits to which they are entitled.

Suchart Chomklin, Thailand’s minister of labor, said the government has taken steps to investigate the death of a Thai national killed in the October 29 disaster in Seoul. At least 150 people, including the Thai woman, were killed in the stampede in the Itaewon district of Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea.

Mr. Suchart said he has directed labor ministry departments to investigate the dead Thai national’s case as soon as possible. Local labor ministry offices in Phetchabun said that the victim was a 27-year-old woman from the province. Prior to this past June, the decedent was making payments into the Social Security Fund in accordance with Section 33 of the SSO statute. Mr. Suchart said he had the Social Security Administration expedite the payment of benefits due to the decedent’s relatives. Funeral costs of 50,000 baht and 15,500 baht from the dead person’s lump sum retirement payment are covered. Complete compensation amounts to 65,500 Thai Baht.
