Intelligent devices protect students from becoming trapped in school buses

Inadvertently leaving children in a car has grown increasingly usual. The Digital Economy Promotion Agency has implemented a new system that employs sensors and artificial intelligence to ensure that there are no students on school buses at the conclusion of the school day. This is intended to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) has implemented a new system that makes it easier for schools and parents to keep track of which pupils are on school buses and vans. This provides an additional safety measure to prevent youngsters from being left in automobiles alone.

The technology, dubbed Smart School Bus, includes a global positioning system (GPS) to track the vehicle’s location, student tracking devices, and an artificial intelligence (AI) system to analyze and report information such as vehicle speed, weather conditions, and the status of students onboard.

Information provided by automobiles equipped with this system will be delivered to parents via a companion app and made available online to schools. When the car is near to home, when their children exit the vehicle at school, and when their children get home, parents will receive a notice.

In addition to tracking devices, the Smart School Bus system is fitted with motion sensors that identify any youngsters left inside a vehicle. Schools may make direct phone calls to such a vehicle, allowing them to communicate with children who are imprisoned.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is supporting the initiative, which will be piloted initially in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Phuket, Chonburi, Rayong, and Chaing Mai.

Approximately 3,000 school vans and buses are already fitted with the system among another 300 public schools, with plans to deploy the system on approximately 500 vehicles run by private schools. DEPA anticipates that the pilot program will assist at least 5,000 young children.
