France’s leader presents his strategy for “navigating a difficult globe” at the APEC CEO Summit

Emmanuel Macron, president of France, was in Thailand for the APEC CEO Summit. In order to restore international order and cooperation, he advocated for a return to multilateralism and international norms.

He said that commerce and investment had been negatively impacted by the rising tensions between world powers. There have been food and energy shortages as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, thus he proposed establishing a new regional balance and stability to forestall further violence.

He also said that countries may avoid having to pick between the two superpowers by maintaining a dynamic balance of power.

To address inequality and instability, President Macron has also argued for a recalibration of capitalism and trade to make them more equitable and sustainable.
