The Singapore Botanic Gardens, the only tropical botanic gardens on the UNESCO World Heritage List, are opening their “Flora of Southeast Asia” exhibition today.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens and the Botanical Art Society (Singapore) are teaming together with their counterparts in Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines to put on this first show. This exhibition showcases the work of 85 artists from these four nations and comprises 120 works in total.

More than 40 prints will be on exhibit at various locations in the Singapore Botanic Gardens, including as the Anglin Gate, Nassim Gate, Bukit Timah Gate, and the Green Pavilion at the Botany Centre. The Botanical Art Gallery is located in the Gallop addition of the Gardens.

Southeast Asian flora is the main subject of this display. This necessitates that the plant shown be indigenous to the area, environment, or habitat shown.

It is no surprise that Southeast Asia is home to a wide variety of blooming plant species.

About 15% of the world’s total plant species may be found in Southeast Asia. In addition, four of the world’s 25 biodiversity hotspots are located there. Since many new species are identified year, it seems certain that the region’s plant diversity estimates will continue to rise.

In some works of botanical art, the habit is depicted alongside the primary topic, while in others, the flower or fruit is dissected to illustrate the artist’s point. A total of 189 submissions from creatives in 13 different nations were received. A team of professional botanists and botanical artists evaluated the works based on criteria including scientific correctness, aesthetic excellence, mastery of medium, and overall effect.

To help people better realize the benefits of engaging with nature in their daily lives, and in keeping with Singapore’s ambition to become a “City in Nature,” an exhibition of botanical artworks is being held. Visitors to Flora of Southeast Asia will be treated to a visual feast of some of the region’s most stunning flora. Everybody who has ever been interested in plants, whether as a pastime or a profession, or simply as a fan of nature, will love this exhibition.

President of the Singaporean Botanical Art Society Carrie-Ann Lee has made the following statement:

Botanical art enthusiasts, newcomers, and professionals alike are all welcome in our group. Our goal is to promote the growth of botanical art in Singapore and throughout Asia. It’s a fun creative endeavor for some, while others just want to unwind or appreciate the outdoors by making botanical art.

As a result, we couldn’t be more thrilled to have artists from all over the world join us for this exhibition and display the unique flora of Southeast Asia. There will be a wide variety of fun things to do at the gallery for all the people that come to see it. Workshops for both children and adults are available, as well as guided tours and artist demonstrations.
