Thai Airways International PCL said Friday (Nov. 26) that Chai Eamsiri will become CEO on February 1 as part of a pandemic-driven reorganization plan.

Thai Airways said that Chai, the CFO, was selected among 53 internal and foreign candidates.

“The nomination is a key next step to create trust and confidence among the creditors, passengers, and business partners,” it said, adding that Chai has 37 years of expertise and understanding in Thai aviation.

Since 2020, the airline has had acting CEOs. Government restrictions required candidates to be Thai.

Thai Airways started a bankruptcy-protected restructuring of 400 billion baht (US$11.17 billion) debt last year.

The new CEO will work with the restructuring committee to revive the airline.
