A new initiative to pay victims of this year’s flooding calamity has been approved by the Cabinet, with a budget of 6.26 billion baht intended to recompense more than one million families.
Government Spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said that the program will reach around 1.05 million families nationwide from May 13 to October 28. He said that compensation for each affected family will be between 5,000 and 9,000 baht, depending on how long the situation has persisted.
Every household that has been flooded for more than seven days and up to thirty days will be eligible for 5,000 baht. Homeowners whose properties were flooded for more than 24 hours but less than seven days are included.
Compensation of 7,000 Thai Baht per household is available for those whose homes were flooded for more than 30 days but less than 60 days. One thousand nine hundred Thai baht will be awarded to each residence that has been flooded for more than 60 days.
The Government Savings Bank is the mechanism through which the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation will provide compensation to qualifying families.
The Ministry of the Interior further reported that active flooding persists in the provinces of Maha Sarakham, Ubon Ratchathani, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, and Nakhon Pathom. Officials are presently assessing the damage in order to compensate the victims adequately.
