PM harvests rice in Chiang Rai Province as part of the BCG campaign

The Prime Minister of Thailand recently traveled to Chiang Rai province to give a lecture on sustainable agriculture and collect rice grown as part of the BCG eco-friendly farming effort.

To see how Hom Mali 105 rice may be grown using the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) method, Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha took government officials to a field in the Chiang Khong district of Chiang Rai today.

The goal of the BCG farming campaign is to encourage the use of organic fertilizers, which are better for the environment and cheaper for farmers to employ, in order to produce rice. The Rice Department, the National Village, the Urban Community Fund, and the Save Planet Agro-Economy Development Association are just few of the groups that came together to launch this initiative.

Subsequently, during a seminar on sustainable farming, the Prime Minister spoke about how the BCG economic model represents Thailand’s economic future and how the circular economy idea helps protect the environment.

According to him, the BCG model would help farmers increase production while reducing risks to workers and the environment, making Thai rice more competitive on the international market.

Chiang Rai province is being positioned as a significant area for organic rice production, and the Prime Minister used this seminar to urge farmers to embrace a market-led approach to addressing the low price issue.
