Ministry of Health Highlights Possibilities for Medical Tourism

The Ministry of Public Health has highlighted how promoting medical tourism to Thailand may boost the country’s economy.

Health minister Anutin Charnvirakul has said that Thailand is the world’s fifth most visited health tourism destination in 2021, based on data from the Medical Tourism Association. The high quality of medical services, inexpensive costs, and high level of living for long-term patients have made the kingdom a top medical tourism destination.

An investigation of 30 hospitals carried out by the Ministry of Health and the Bank of Thailand (BOT) last year indicated that foreign visitors seeking medical care in Thailand spent over 11.9 billion baht. Over the course of a year, this is an increase of 47%. Hospitals made the most money treating patients with cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, cancer, bone and joint problems, and nervous system disorders.

Average treatment costs for international patients came to 35,000 Thai Baht. Patients traveled from as far away as China, Japan, and the United States to receive medical care. Travelers generally sought help for issues related to their musculoskeletal system, circulatory system, metabolic system, and dentition.

Minister of Health Sansern stated he has been striving to promote Thailand as a medical tourism and wellness retreat destination in order to boost the country’s economy through the “Health for Wealth” idea.
