The government has implemented a combination pass for electric bus and boat services

The Ministry of Transport has introduced single-fare electric cards to assist Bangkok commuters in saving money by utilizing electric buses and boats.

The electronic card with a single fare, known as the Hop Card, was unveiled on Thursday (Dec. 22) during the “Thai Smile Happy Gift: Start to Connect” event organized by the Ministry of Transport. Chayatham Promsorn, the Transport Ministry’s permanent secretary, presided over the ceremony.

According to Chayatham, the cards will be available in two distinct packaging options. At a cost of 40 baht a day, the introductory package grants clients unlimited rides on electric buses inside the Thai Smile network, which services more than 120 routes in Bangkok. In the second package, patrons pay 50 baht per day to ride Thai Smile Bus-operated electric buses and boats without limit.

Chayatham added that there are already 1,250 electric buses carrying over 10,000 people every day on over 120 routes. He claimed that the ministry’s goal for the following year is to raise the number of electric buses in Bangkok and its suburbs to 3,500 and to enhance the connection to electric railways to increase commuter accessibility within the city.
