Preserving and Promoting Thai Song Dam Culture: Annual Event Draws Attendees from Five Provinces

Last evening, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province’s Deputy Governor, Mr. Ongkharak Thongniramon, presided over the opening ceremony of the “Conserve and Carry On Thai Song Dam Culture for the Year 2023” event. The ceremony, held at Tan Chet Yod Temple in Sam Roi Yot District, was organized by the Prachuap Provincial Cultural Office in collaboration with the Song Dam Thai Cultural Center and Ban Tan Chet Yod. The objective of the event was to preserve and promote Thai Song Dam culture, while fostering love and unity within the Thai Song Dam community.

The event was heavily attended by Thai Song Dam brothers and sisters from both the local area and five provinces in the west. It featured a range of activities, including exhibitions of the Thai Song Dam way of life, cultural performances, cooking demonstrations, and demonstrations of traditional costumes, silk reeling, and arts and crafts. One of the highlights was the Thai Song Dam Folk Play, “In Kon Faun Khaen.”

The annual event aims to ensure the continuation and promotion of Thai Song Dam culture for future generations to appreciate. It also serves as an opportunity for Thai Song Dam people from across the country to gather and celebrate their unique local way of life. The event encourages participation from local communities, organizations, and agencies in the conservation, development, and dissemination of local arts and culture. It also promotes tourism, which helps to generate income for families, communities, and localities. Ultimately, the event aims to bring the identity of the Thai Song Dam people to the forefront and position it as the cultural capital of the region.
