Thai Department of Employment Cracks Down on Illegal Migrant Labor in Bangkok

The Department of Employment has conducted an inspection of Chan Road in Bangkok, following reports that migrant workers were taking jobs reserved for Thai citizens in the area. The inspection was carried out by officials and police from the Immigration Bureau, covering locations from Soi Chan 16 to Soi Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra 14. The aim of the inspection was to ensure that migrant workers were living in Thailand legally and not taking up positions that were reserved for Thai nationals.

During the inspection, officials discovered two migrants working as street vendors who were unable to provide any documentation, in violation of Thai law. They were brought to the Suan Phlu Immigration Center to face legal charges.

Migrants found without permits or performing jobs reserved for Thai citizens face fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 baht and will be deported back to their home countries. The director-general of the Department of Employment warned that authorities will conduct surprise inspections throughout the kingdom, strictly enforcing the law. Individuals who wish to report illegal migrant employment or violations of regulations can contact the department at the Ministry of Labor, employment offices around Bangkok, or call the hotline number 02 354 1729 or 1506 extension 2.
