Thailand launches new project to accelerate SDG achievement across 15 provinces

The Thai Ministry of Interior, the European Union (EU), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have collaborated to accelerate the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout Thailand. The project, called “Strengthening SDG Localization in Thailand,” aims to enhance the quality of life of people in local communities by targeting 15 selected provinces.

The project’s primary objectives include improving stakeholder engagement in policy dialogues, implementing gender-responsive SDG localization, and strengthening the EU-Thailand partnership to achieve SDGs. The EU, MOI, UNDP, and the wider UN system have jointly committed to accelerating the process.

The launch of the project was attended by key partners, government representatives, governors from the 15 pilot provinces, the private sector, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies. The EU’s Deputy Head of Delegation to Thailand, Sara Rezoagli, emphasized the importance of working together from the grassroots level to address today’s global challenges.

Permanent Secretary for Interior Suttipong Juljarern also stressed the project’s significance, describing it as a critical step towards sustainable development cooperation. He confirmed the ministry’s commitment to implementing sustainable development goals in a localized approach, focusing on “understanding, accessibility, and development.”

Suttipong stated that the project could expand in the future to cover all provinces in Thailand, following the spirit of “1 Province, 1 Pledge for Sustainable Thailand,” which aims to ensure that all individuals in the nation can contribute to its stability, prosperity, and sustainability.
