Thailand Leads Regional Energy Transition, Targets Low-Carbon Economy

Thailand is making significant strides towards becoming a regional leader in energy transformation amidst the global wave of transitioning to cleaner sources of energy. The commitment was highlighted during the opening ceremony of the Future Energy Asia Exhibition and Summit, where Thailand’s Deputy permanent secretary of the Energy Ministry, Veerapat Kiatfuengfoo, emphasized the country’s determination and consistent policy measures to achieve a low-carbon economy.

Thailand is actively increasing its utilization of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and hydropower, through various measures, including subsidies, according to Veerapat. The country has set ambitious targets of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2065.

The three-day event, expected to attract over 18,000 visitors from more than 70 countries and regions, serves as a platform for CEOs, policymakers, and technical experts to share valuable insights on the current trends, challenges, and prospects in the energy and mobility sectors.

Prasertsak Cherngchawano, Deputy Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, stressed the growing importance of collaborations and partnerships across sectors and regions to address climate change and develop sustainable solutions.

The exhibition showcases a diverse range of renewable energy and automotive exhibits, including electric vehicles, EV batteries, charging infrastructures, and enabling software and technologies. Notably, the event has also captured the attention of Chinese exhibitors, with Gao Cheng, Sales Director of a Chinese renewable energy company, expressing optimism about the Southeast Asian market and viewing the exhibition as a crucial first step in expanding their presence beyond the Chinese market.
