Ashton Asoke Condo Seeks Resolution After Building Permit Revocation

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has unveiled a potential way forward for the Ashton Asoke condominium after facing a unanimous decision by the Supreme Administrative Court to revoke its building permit. The BMA now aims to allow the condominium to apply for a new construction permit, subject to necessary modifications to its entrance and exit points. This development comes in the wake of a previous verdict by the Central Administrative Court on July 27, which raised serious concerns for the 668 unit owners, many of whom have already resided in the property for more than four years.

In response to the predicament, the BMA has assured residents that they will fully comply with the court’s orders and adhere to all further procedures outlined in the building control law. A dedicated team has been assembled by the BMA to handle issues pertaining to Ashton Asoke, and Governor Chadchart Sittipant is scheduled to provide additional information and potential resolutions on August 3, as reported by KhaoSod.

The BMA, in collaboration with the Watthana District Office, which holds responsibility for the area, is gearing up to communicate the necessary steps to Ananda MF Asia Asoke Limited—a joint venture between Ananda Development PCL, holding 51% of the shares, and Mitsui Fudosan, a Japanese company, holding 49%. As per expectations, the building’s owner will have to make structural amendments to ensure compliance with the law.

However, the revocation of the building permit does not necessarily imply that Ashton Asoke will face demolition. The company still has the opportunity to submit a new construction plan to the Watthana District Office. Deputy Governor Visanu Sapsompol has outlined the way forward, stating that the Ashton Asoke case will require the legal team of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to meticulously review the judgment details, which Governor Chadchart will personally present. The impact on the general public will be taken into consideration.

Ananda Development is presently exploring various solutions, including modifications to the project’s entrance and exit, in an effort to ensure compliance with the building control law. Further developments will be disclosed by Governor Chadchart during his announcement on August 3, offering hope for a resolution to the Ashton Asoke condominium’s uncertain future.
