Thai Prime Minister Addresses Education and National Challenges at Q&A Seminar

Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin engaged in a comprehensive Q&A session during the 2023 Daily News Talk, shedding light on the country’s recent achievements and major challenges.

At the forefront, the Prime Minister delved into pressing concerns, especially concerning the education sector. Highlighting Thailand’s underperformance in mathematics and science based on the latest PISA test results, he underscored the urgency to rectify the nation’s educational standing. Thailand’s English proficiency ranked particularly low, landing the country at 101st among 113 nations.

Despite significant budget allocations to the Ministry of Education, the Prime Minister acknowledged persistent issues, stressing the imperative for an updated curriculum aligned with market demands. Addressing educational disparities also emerged as a crucial agenda.

Beyond education, the Prime Minister tackled multifaceted challenges, including informal debts and imminent initiatives. He revealed plans to introduce a 10,000-baht stipend via a digital wallet system starting May next year, aiming to provide essential financial support.

Discussing the menace of drug-related issues, the Prime Minister unveiled strategies, announcing a significant drug seizure scheduled for December 16th. Moreover, he set a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) with a four-year timeline to eradicate drug problems. The government’s firm stance on enforcing laws against firearms and influential figures was also emphasized during the session.
