In a startling incident on March 17, 2024, Pol. Gen. Surachet Hakpal, Deputy Police Commander, disclosed a distressing event involving two New Zealanders, Mr. Oscar Matson Day and Mr. Hamish Art Day, both 36 years old. The altercation ensued when the tourists, riding motorcycles, disregarded traffic regulations, prompting Police Lieutenant Somsak Noo-iad to intervene. As he attempted to halt them, they assaulted him, resulting in injuries.
Police reports indicate that the confrontation escalated as the tourists aggressively resisted, even attempting to seize the officer’s firearm. Despite the tense situation, law enforcement managed to contain the incident without casualties. Subsequently, the suspects were detained and face multiple charges, including assault on an officer and theft of property.



Responding swiftly to the incident, Pol. Gen. Surachet emphasized the importance of safeguarding law enforcement personnel and commended their valor in maintaining order. As a decisive measure, Pol. Maj. Gen. Songplead Sirisukha, Commander of Immigration Region 6, has revoked the tourists’ visas and imposed a ban on their reentry into Thailand, underscoring the gravity of the offense and the commitment to uphold public safety.
