The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has given the green light for the second phase of the Thai-Chinese high-speed train project, marking a significant step forward in the nation’s infrastructure development. This phase extends from Nakhon Ratchasima to Nong Khai, covering a distance of 357.12 kilometers, featuring sections elevated and at ground level.
In a recent board meeting chaired by Department of Land Transport Deputy Director-General Chirute Visalachitra, key advancements in the project were deliberated. This phase entails the construction of five stations—Bua Yai, Ban Phai, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, and Nong Khai. The SRT will now present the project’s details to the Transport Ministry for further evaluation.
The construction schedule outlines four years for civil engineering works and an additional five and a half years for the electric rail system, aiming for operational readiness by 2031. Comprehensive preparations for environmental and structural aspects have been mapped out, with the environmental impact assessment receiving approval on February 16.
Furthermore, alongside the rail expansion, the SRT board has approved an investment plan for the construction of a cross-docking station in Nong Khai province. This initiative forms a crucial component of the project’s broader expansion efforts in the region.
