Pickup Truck Crash in Bangkok Kills Two, Injures One

A tragic accident occurred early Thursday morning when a pickup truck lost control and violently crashed into a bridge pillar, resulting in the vehicle being severed in half. The incident happened at approximately 1:30 am opposite the Seacon Square shopping mall on Srinakarin Road inbound, in the Nong Bon Subdistrict of the Prawet District in Bangkok.

The crash claimed the lives of two men: a 27-year-old driver and a 45-year-old passenger who was seated in the back. A third passenger, a man approximately 25 years old who was in the front left seat, sustained serious injuries including broken limbs and multiple wounds. He was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

According to a 19-year-old eyewitness, the pickup truck was traveling at high speed in the third lane. The driver attempted to overtake the car ahead and encountered a slow-moving garbage truck, necessitating a sudden brake. The heavy rain and slippery road conditions caused the vehicle to lose control and collide with the bridge pillar. A fire ignited in the engine compartment following the crash, but a quick-thinking bystander used a fire extinguisher to prevent it from spreading.

Emergency responders and police arrived swiftly at the scene to manage the aftermath of the crash and ensure the injured passenger received medical attention. The severity of the accident highlighted the dangers of high-speed driving, especially under adverse weather conditions.

This incident underscores the importance of cautious driving in challenging weather. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine any further contributing factors.

Photos documenting the scene were taken by Puttisan Kaewbuadee. The efforts of the good Samaritan who extinguished the fire were crucial in preventing further potential harm from the accident.
