DLT Proposes New Electric Bus Routes for Rangsit Station

The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has put forth a proposal for four new electric bus routes aimed at enhancing connectivity to the State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) Red Line Rangsit Station in Pathum Thani province. This initiative seeks to rectify existing deficiencies in the station’s feeder system, as highlighted by a recent survey conducted by the Transport Ministry.

According to Transport Ministry spokesperson Krichanont Iyapunya, the proposal responds to identified shortcomings in public transportation and parking facilities at Rangsit Station. The DLT intends for these new routes to be managed by private operators.

The envisioned routes will serve key destinations including Rangsit Circle, Rangsit-Thammasat University, Rangsit Campus, Rangsit-Krung Siam St Carlos Medical Centre, and Rangsit Khlong 7. Plans are underway to submit the proposal to the Pathum Thani Land Transport Office next month, following which it will be forwarded to the Ministry for consideration. Additionally, Krichanont noted that the SRT is advocating for the expansion of Rangsit Station’s parking capacity from 100 to 300 vehicles, along with plans for constructing a dedicated car park building.

Currently, the station’s feeder system heavily relies on pick-up taxis operating from various points including Rangsit-Charusorn, Rangsit-Nong Sua District, Rangsit-Chiang Rak Station, and Rangsit-Ongkharak District.

The Ministry attributes an increase in train service usage to the recent implementation of a flat-rate fare of 20 baht, applicable across 14 stations on the SRT Red Line and 16 stations on the MRT Purple Line.

Anticipated benefits of the proposed electric bus routes and expanded parking facilities include enhanced commuter convenience and a bolstered utilization of public transportation infrastructure.
