The government is advancing 11 creative industries by leveraging soft power, cultural capital, and local identity to boost tourism, create jobs, generate income, and add economic value to the province and the country as a whole.
Radklao Inthawong Suwankiri, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announced that the next roving Cabinet meeting will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima during the first week of July. The Ministry of Culture plans to showcase “Natyayuth” Korat boxing at this event to welcome the Cabinet and promote Thai cultural tourism. Korat is the commonly known name for Nakhon Ratchasima province.
Radklao emphasized that this mobile Cabinet meeting aims to promote economic restructuring and enhance the economy through trade, investment, services, and tourism. The Ministry of Culture has collaborated with various agencies in Korat to promote soft power in 11 creative industries. These efforts involve utilizing the unique cultural assets of each area in the province to generate economic value. The ministry has compiled cultural data from all 32 districts and produced short films highlighting the unique identities of 12 pilot districts to enhance the province’s soft power.
Culture Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol has tasked the Nakhon Ratchasima Cultural Office with preparing the “Natyayuth” Korat boxing performance for the Cabinet members at the mobile meeting on July 1st.
Korat boxing is a traditional martial art with roots dating back to the Ayutthaya period. It is a cultural heritage of Nakhon Ratchasima, and the “Natyayuth” performance will feature ancient Korat boxing rituals and techniques, preserving this valuable martial arts knowledge. This initiative not only aims to preserve cultural heritage but also to attract tourists and boost the local economy by highlighting the province’s rich cultural traditions.
In attendance at the meeting will be key officials and stakeholders who will witness the cultural performances and discuss strategies for further economic and cultural development in the region. This comprehensive approach underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging cultural capital as a means to drive economic growth and improve the livelihoods of local communities.
