Thammasat University Hospital Opens Advanced Medical Center

Thammasat University Hospital has marked the university’s 90th anniversary with the inauguration of the Thammasat Advanced Medical Center (THAMC), a facility aimed at providing premium medical services at reduced costs.

Since its inception in December 1987, the hospital has primarily served university staff and students at the Rangsit campus. Over time, it has broadened its services to include the general public, now handling over 5,000 outpatients daily with an annual budget of approximately 7.5 billion baht. Thammasat University Council President Prof. Surapon Nitikraipot emphasized the university’s commitment to inclusive healthcare, noting that the hospital allocates about 50 million baht annually to treat financially disadvantaged patients.

The THAMC aims to deliver high-quality medical care at prices roughly 50% lower than those at premium private hospitals. It features specialized clinics in orthopedics, surgery, skincare, and child health, and currently offers 150 beds with the capacity to serve up to 1,500 outpatients daily. Full services at the center are expected to begin by mid-November.

THAMC Director Dr. Chittinud Havanonda highlighted the center’s achievements in environmental and energy efficiency. The 50,000-square-meter facility has received a “platinum level” certification from the Thai Green Building Institute, making it the first hospital to earn this distinction. The facility incorporates advanced green technologies that reduce energy consumption by 37% and water use by 58%, compared to similar facilities.

Among those in attendance at the launch were hospital staff, university officials, and community members, all celebrating the milestone and the enhanced healthcare services that THAMC promises to bring.
