Death Toll Rises to 12 in Chatuchak Building Collapse

The death toll from the collapse of a 30-story building in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district has risen to 12, with 75 people still unaccounted for as rescue operations continue. The structure, which was under construction and intended to house the Office of the Auditor General, collapsed following tremors from an earthquake in Myanmar on Friday.

Rescue teams recovered the body of a woman from Zone B of the debris, bringing the number of confirmed fatalities to 12. Her remains have been sent for autopsy. The site has been divided into four zones—A, B, C, and D—with dedicated teams working in each area to search for survivors.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, particularly why this building was reduced to rubble while surrounding structures, including other construction sites, remained intact. The deputy governor of Bangkok stated that weak life signs are still being detected, and rescue teams are working urgently to locate and extract those trapped beneath the wreckage.

International rescue teams have arrived in Bangkok and are coordinating with Thai authorities to intensify search and recovery efforts.
