Val Kilmer, the Hollywood actor known for his roles in Top Gun, Batman Forever, and The Doors, has died at the age of 65. Kilmer passed away in Los Angeles on Tuesday following complications from pneumonia, his daughter Mercedes Kilmer confirmed.
Kilmer had been battling health issues since being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014. The disease and subsequent treatments, including a tracheotomy, significantly affected his ability to speak. Despite these challenges, he made a notable return to the screen in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, reprising his role as Iceman alongside Tom Cruise. It was his final film appearance.

Born in Los Angeles, Kilmer gained recognition for his portrayal of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991). He later took on the role of Bruce Wayne in 1995’s Batman Forever, adding to his reputation as a leading man in Hollywood. Over his decades-long career, he starred in a range of films, from action blockbusters to independent dramas, cementing his status as a versatile actor.
Kilmer is survived by his two children, Mercedes, 33, and Jack Kilmer, 29, whom he shared with ex-wife Joanne Whalley. The couple was married from 1988 to 1996.
