On May 28, the Miss Grand International Organization announced that it has officially terminated Rachel Gupta’s title as Miss Grand International 2024, citing a breach of contract. The decision comes just one day before Gupta publicly claimed she had resigned from her role due to alleged mistreatment by the organization.
In a formal statement shared on its social media platforms, the Thailand-based beauty pageant cited several reasons for Gupta’s dismissal. According to the organization, Gupta failed to perform her assigned responsibilities, undertook outside projects without receiving prior approval, and declined to participate in an official trip to Guatemala. As a result, the organization said her title was revoked effective immediately. It also instructed her to return the crown to the Miss Grand International head office within 30 days.
Gupta responded to the announcement with a video posted to Instagram, in which she alleged that the organization had subjected her to unfair treatment during her reign. The Indian beauty queen said she was provided with inadequate accommodation on the outskirts of Bangkok and claimed that her monthly stipend was halted after only one month. She also accused the pageant’s Thai organizers of prioritizing commercial promotion on TikTok over philanthropic initiatives, which she believed should have been central to her role. Gupta described her experience since being crowned as “miserable.”
Further details surrounding the incident have yet to be confirmed by either party. Several officials and individuals linked to the event were present during recent proceedings, but the organization has not provided any additional comment beyond its initial statement.
