On 23 June 2025, Thailand’s Industry Minister Akanat Promphan visited Phitsanulok province to assess ongoing efforts to reduce sugarcane burning and promote sustainable agricultural practices as part of a broader strategy to modernize the sugar industry.
The inspection took place at Phitsanulok Sugar Co., Ltd. in Bang Krathum district, where the minister was briefed on current operations, challenges faced by the sector, and steps being taken to limit environmentally harmful practices such as pre-harvest cane burning. The initiative is part of a national push to align local industry practices with Thailand’s clean agriculture and green industry goals.
Efforts in the province reflect broader government policies under the Ministry of Industry’s Fight, Save, Build framework. This program aims to encourage legal compliance, stabilize the workforce economically, and promote innovation in the country’s industrial base. Industry officials reported steady improvement in reducing sugarcane burning in the region.
Phitsanulok Sugar Co., Ltd. has launched a four-part operational strategy focusing on long-term business growth through the S-curve model, community cooperation, environmentally friendly practices, and income generation through local employment and enterprise development. These efforts are seen as complementing the national agenda for sustainable industrial progress.
Authorities believe that the province’s direction can serve as a reference for other regions seeking to modernize their agricultural output while limiting environmental harm. The visit also served as an opportunity for the ministry to gather local perspectives to help shape future policy and refine programs focused on clean industry practices.
A number of ministry representatives and company officials were present during the site visit to observe and contribute to the ongoing dialogue.
