AIS unveils Thai-operated hyperscale cloud service

Advanced Info Service (AIS) has announced the official rollout of AIS Cloud, a hyperscale cloud service developed entirely under Thai ownership and jurisdiction. The launch, backed by a 4-billion-baht investment, is intended to bolster Thailand’s digital infrastructure and cater to the increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and enterprise-level digital services.

According to AIS, the AIS Cloud platform is the first of its kind in the country to offer a full-scale cloud service operated exclusively by a Thai company. Its infrastructure is based locally, ensuring that all stored and processed data remains under Thai legal oversight. This approach addresses growing concerns around digital sovereignty and regulatory compliance, particularly as data volumes expand alongside AI adoption.

Market projections cited by AIS anticipate Thailand’s AI industry to grow significantly—from 12.2 billion baht in 2023 to 95.1 billion baht by 2028. To accommodate such growth, the company says local data processing capabilities will be critical for managing security, continuity, and compliance risks.

AIS Cloud runs on Oracle’s cloud infrastructure but is locally adapted. Services include contracts and billing in Thai language and currency, aiming to reduce currency exchange risks and enhance accessibility for domestic clients. Technical support is also offered by Thai-speaking professionals to streamline customer experience.

The platform features auto-scaling to handle heavy and fluctuating workloads and complies with high security standards. It is also continuously updated to meet evolving enterprise needs, according to AIS.

The AIS Cloud service has received the dSURE 3-Star Cloud certification from the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa). This certification, the highest tier in the dSURE framework, is awarded based on service performance, cybersecurity measures, and environmental criteria. Businesses using certified services may also benefit from tax incentives under depa’s digital services programme.

AIS executives, including Phupa Akavipat, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, and Passakon Prathombutr, Chief Technology Officer at depa, stated that this initiative is key to establishing long-term digital resilience. They underscored that such infrastructure, built and managed locally, plays a central role in supporting national digital development and ensuring technological independence.
