A Thai tour guide lost her life and 16 foreign tourists were rescued after a tour boat capsized in the Chiew Lan Reservoir in Surat Thani province on July 20, 2025.
The group, comprising five Belgian and eleven Dutch tourists, was on a guided boat tour through Chiew Lan Reservoir within Khao Sok National Park. According to park officials, the boat was struck by a sudden strong gust of wind near the Chong Khao area, causing it to overturn.
Nearby boats quickly responded and successfully pulled all passengers and the boat operator from the water. Despite the swift response, the female Thai guide could not be saved. She was later retrieved from the water and transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Authorities confirmed that all 16 tourists escaped without serious injury. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
