Benjakitti Park in Bangkok is buzzing with excitement as the BKK Expo 2024 commences, urging animal enthusiasts to consider adopting stray cats and positively impacting lives, one purr at a time.
Deputy Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Governor Tavida Kamolvej announced today, June 20, that a diverse array of vaccinated and sterilised stray cats are on display at the Sua Pa Benjakitti Museum Building until June 23.
This initiative presents Bangkok residents with a unique opportunity to find their next feline companion. Emphasising the selection process, Tavida highlighted that only cats deemed ready for adoption were chosen from the Prawet animal shelter.
Prospective adopters must fulfil specific criteria, including family consent, basic animal care knowledge, sufficient pet space, financial capability for ongoing care, and a demonstrated history of kindness towards animals. Those interested in adopting stray dogs are encouraged to visit the Prawet shelter directly.
Addressing past challenges candidly, Tavida acknowledged the shelter’s historical issues with stray cruelty, stating, “We are committed to transforming the shelter into a sanctuary of love for these abandoned pets.”
The BMA ensures that animals brought to the shelter receive necessary treatment, training, and vaccinations to prepare them for adoption.
Despite space constraints for about 1,000 stray dogs and cats, the BMA persists in its efforts to sterilise as many strays as possible citywide, as reported by The Nation.
Themed “The City Can Change Because of You,” the BKK Expo 2024 offers more than just pet adoption opportunities. Visitors can explore an interactive Bangkok model, savour delicacies from 50 districts, peruse community products, attend workshops, and let children enjoy a sprawling playground. The event runs from June 20 to 23, from 9 am to 9 pm.
