Suvarnabhumi Airport is set to transform its infrastructure with the introduction of lush, green vertical gardens, inspired by Singapore’s renowned urban greenery model. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Suriya Jungrungreangkit, has tasked the Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) and Airports of Thailand Public Co., Ltd. (AOT) to spearhead this initiative. The project aims to enhance the aesthetic appeal and environmental friendliness of various infrastructure elements, particularly the concrete pillars of expressways, starting from late 2024 during the high tourist season.
According to Mr. Suriya, the goal is to make the structures not only visually pleasing but also eco-friendly, setting a standard for other agencies to follow. This pilot project will initially focus on the route within Suvarnabhumi Airport, extending to its entrances and exits. The initiative seeks to create a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for visitors, establishing a new landmark that aligns with the government’s tourism promotion policies.
Mr. Suriya emphasized that this green transformation is not only about beautification but also about promoting Thailand’s commitment to sustainable and innovative urban design. The successful implementation of this project at Suvarnabhumi Airport will serve as a model for similar green initiatives across the country, enhancing the overall travel experience and contributing to Thailand’s reputation as a green tourism destination.
Various officials, including members from the EXAT and AOT, will oversee the execution of this project to ensure it meets the intended goals of enhancing the airport’s environment and making a positive impression on tourists.
