Chadchart explains the progress of BKK-Plant app and the new system Traffy Fondue

(June 27, 2022) Governor Mr Chadcart Sittipunt held the press conference at Bangkok City Hall to reveal the progress of the Million Trees Project and the approval of the installation of the “Traffy Fondue” system after the Bangkok Executive Committee Meeting No. 10/2565 , to resolve urban complaints.

The goal of planting one million trees is to reduce dust and pollution in cities, create shade, absorb carbon dioxide (CO2), and create biodiversity. Planting strategies are divided into the following 4 groups according to the nature of the area:

  1. Large districts lacking parks, such as Nong Chok District and Khlong Sam Wa District, will target carbon dioxide absorption. Plant 75% perennials, 20% intermediate shrubs, 5% vines.
  2. Large districts with enough parks, such as Prawetand and Chatuchak, to create biodiversity; plant 75% perennials, 20% medium shrubs and 5% vines.
  3. Small districts lacking parks, such as Samphanthawong District, aim to collect dust and urban pollution, providing shade. Plant 40% perennials, 50% intermediate shrubs, 10% vines.
  4. Small districts with enough parks, such as Phra Nakhon District and Dusit District, also target dust and create biodiversity for polluted cities. Plant 30% perennials and no more than 70% medium shrubs.

The current target is to plant 10,000 trees in various government departments, 50,000 trees from the public sector, 200,000 trees from the Environment Agency, 240,000 trees from private companies and 500,000 trees from district offices in Bangkok area communities. Planting saplings together helps create more jobs in the community.

Up to now, 26,122 trees have been planted, of which 9,692 are perennials, 11,776 shrubs and 4,654 ivy trees. Among them, the Bang Kapi area is the most completed work, accounting for 37%. For private organisations wishing to plant trees, namely The Erawan 100, PTT 100,000, SCG 100,000, Sansiri 20,000, CP 100,000, Taiwan Business Association 50,000, ThaiPBS 1,000, Dubble A 100,000, Bangkok Residential 400, AIA 10,000, Central Group 100,000, a total of 581,400 trees, and several agencies with no confirmed figures. In addition, the Bangkok City Government has coordinated participating agencies, such as the Federation of Thai Industries and the Thai Chamber of Commerce. As a result, the private sector alone has planted nearly 600,000 trees.

“It’s a long-term policy because it takes time for trees to grow, but we can start faster, and without a budget, as long as we can unite our forces, we can achieve it, and we believe in 4 years to complete the 1 million trees. Goal. Make Bangkok more green space,” said Governor Chadcart.

Data on the 26,122 trees that have been planted will be recorded in the BKK-Plant app’s database, including information such as event name, planting date, planting location, tree type, and more. It will provide the recommended tree types and photos for the area in Phase 2, for millions of trees to be recorded. Finally, it can be converted into carbon credits in the future to green the city.

In addition, the progress of handling community complaints through the newly developed “Traffy Fondue” system found that 50% of the problems were related to traffic, sidewalks, lighting, flooding, electrical wiring and litter. Collecting all the data, the county and bureau know the main community problems.

From 29 May – 27 June, a total of 54,929 cases came into the system, with 41 times the number of complaints reported in 29 days,4,458 cases were waiting for the process, accounting for 8%, and 21,196 cases were processed. And 39% referred to responsible agencies, a total of 10,202, accounting for 19%, completed 19,436, or 35%, with the number of people reporting problems 6 times, mainly in the age range of 30-34 years, representing 20.5%, followed by 25-29 years, representing 20.1%. In 40 of the 50 districts, data has been collected and processed, accounting for 90%.

“That’s the power of the platform. We’re moving management to a new platform where all departments can get information about issues to resolve without waiting for orders or citations from the governor,” Governor Chadchart said.
